CLEARWATER – Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man Sept. 26 wanted for five counts of attempted murder on a law enforcement officer in Miami-Dade County.
According to a report from the sheriff’s office, Andy Roman, 23, of Miami was arrested about 12:45 p.m. at McMullen Booth Road and Crest Drive in unincorporated Clearwater.
According to investigators, Hialeah Police Department requested the assistance of the Flordia Department of Law Enforcement after they received information that Roman was somewhere in Central Florida. FDLE developed information that linked the suspect to being in Hillsborough County.
Subsequently, Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office received a tip that indicated the suspect was in Pinellas County, specifically in the area of Enterprise Road and U.S. 19, and passed the information to Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputies, assisted by HCSO, began looking for the suspect, who was considered to be armed and dangerous. The suspect was spotted at a Burger King located at SR 580 and U.S.19 and was seen entering a blue Dodge Durango.\
The vehicle, driven by an unidentified female, pulled out of the Burger King parking lot. Deputies then conducted a felony stop at McMullen Booth and Crest Drive. Deputies ordered Roman out of the vehicle. He complied and was arrested without further incident.
The driver is being interviewed by detectives. Hialeah Police detectives took custody of the vehicle.
Roman was booked into the Pinellas County Jail about 9:47 p.m. without bond. According to media reports, Hialeah police say he used an AK-47 and a submachine gun to shoot at officers on the night of Sept. 23.
