CLEARWATER – A Clearwater man was arrested in Madison, Fla. Oct. 2 and extradited to Clearwater in connection to an attempted murder that took place in Clearwater on July 9.
Troy Hiers, 33, allegedly argued with Joey Graves over money on the 1100 block of Palm Bluff Street July 9. At some point, Hiers is accused of pulling out a handgun and firing multiple shots at Graves, according to a Clearwater Police report. Officers arrived a minute later at 3:05 p.m., but everyone, including the victim and suspect, had fled the scene.
Graves was later located at the Greenwood Apartments and taken by ambulance to Bayfront Medical Center with life threatening injuries where he underwent surgery, the report said. The medical helicopter had been grounded due to weather. He was seriously injured but survived his wounds.
During the investigation, detectives developed probable cause for Heirs’s arrest, but Hiers had fled the area. Hiers was arrested and extradited to Pinellas County on Oct. 8. He is charged with attempted second degree murder, failure to appear and failure to appear for possession of cocaine. He is being held at the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $255,013 bail.
