CLEARWATER – Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Michigan man wanted for murder and attempted murder about 1:45 a.m. Oct. 26 in Clearwater.
Detectives arrested Alex John Parker Jr., 27, of Flint, Mich., after a Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team executed a search warrant at a private residence in Clearwater. Parker was wanted for shooting two men, one fatally, earlier this month in Flint.
According to Michigan authorities, on Oct. 12, Parker shot the two men, allegedly in retaliation - after one of them shot him several weeks before. Parker fled and police issued warrants for his arrest – one for homicide and one for attempted homicide.
The Sheriff’s Office began working with investigators of the Michigan State Police and developed leads that Parker could be staying at a residence on Overlea Street. On Oct. 25, Sheriff’s detectives established surveillance at the residence and observed an individual matching the suspect’s description.
Several women were also seen entering the residence. A rental vehicle (later returned to an area car rental company); and a vehicle bearing a Michigan tag were also observed.
Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit secured a search warrant, and the Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team made entry into the home early in the morning Oct. 26. Parker was located in a bedroom hiding underneath a bed. He was arrested without incident.
Four women and nine children, ages 1 to 11, were also inside the home. No injuries were reported. The women and the children in the home were known to the suspect, one of the women was identified as his girlfriend.
Detectives conducted interviews with the various subjects. No additional arrests were made, and no weapon was found inside the home. Detectives said Parker has a long criminal history of felony drug charges including possession of cocaine and marijuana. He was considered armed and dangerous.
Robbery/Homicide detectives are in contact with Michigan State Police investigators, who will begin the extradition process for the suspect.
