CLEARWATER – Clearwater has named four finalists for its new police chief.

The finalists are Eugenio Bernal, deputy chief for Orlando’s police department; Anthony Holloway, chief of police for the Sommerville, Mass., police department; John Jackson, chief of police for the Alamosa, Colo., police department; and Thomas Lawrence, commander of the Dallas, Texas, police department.

“I believe we have identified four highly qualified police professionals to be considered to replace retiring Police Chief Sid Klein,” said City Manager Bill Horne in a press release. “The final candidates reflect what our community believes in and has the experience to lead one of the premier police departments in the nation. Now it is time to give these candidates a closer look from the perspective of our city council, employee union members and city residents.”

The candidates will be in town Dec. 15 and 16 and will meet one on one with Union officials, city council members, and City Manager Bill Horne.

The city will host a forum from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at the Harborview Center for the public to meet the four finalists. The public will have the opportunity to ask the candidates questions and provide feedback to the city manager.

Candidates’ resumes are available upon request.

Police Chief Sid Klein will retire on Feb. 26, 2010 after 29 years of service as Clearwater’s Chief of Police.
