CLEARWATER – James “Doc” Szatkowski of Dixon Pound 79 of the Military Order of the Devil Dogs was recently presented with the Pound Dog of the Year Award for his outstanding service to the Marine Corps League, the Military Order of the Devil Dogs, the Veterans Administration and to the community.
The Military Order of the Devil Dogs is the fun and honor society of Marine Corps League Detachment 54 in Clearwater-Largo. The award was presented to Szatkowski by Ron Ashley, the Proud Keeper of Dixon Pound 79 at the 237th birthday celebration of the Marine Corps, hosted by the detachment at the Belleair Country Club.
Szatkowski, a Pedigree Devil Dog and the Senior Vice Pound Keeper, has been actively engaged in numerous fundraiser and outreach projects in support of the Marine Corps League and the Military Order of the Devil Dogs. He has provided assistance and services to veterans at the Veterans Administration facility at Bay Pines and the VA Clinic in Palm Harbor. He has worked with Suncoast Hospice in their veteran-to-veteran program and also has participated in Project Hope, a community service project that helps feed the homeless.
