Aging Well Center hosts events

CLEARWATER – The Clearwater Aging Well Center, 1501 N. Belcher Road in the Long Center, announces the following special programs in December:

• Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2 to 3 p.m. – The Clearwater Marine Aquarium’s education team discusses their work as a nonprofit marine animal hospital, doing rescues and rehabilitation. The event is free.

• Wednesday, Dec. 11, 11 to 11:45 a.m. – PEAK Heart Health information session. Learn about the January e-health technology workshops with online interactive instruction on cardiovascular health resources. Space is limited. Preregistration is suggested at this free event.

• Friday, Dec. 13, 10 a.m. to noon – CARFIT. Trained personnel lead drivers through a 12-point checklist with their vehicles to identify car adjustments that could provide better driver comfort and safety. Appointments are required. Call 724-3070. The event is free.

• Thursday, Dec. 19, 1 to 2 p.m. – Post Civil War Reconstruction lecture. Dr. Angela Zombek describes the tensions between republicans and then-president Andrew Johnson, civil war amendments, implementing reconstruction in the post-Civil War south. The event is free.

Holiday programs

The Clearwater Aging Well Center will host December holiday programming including the following:

• Monday, Dec. 9, noon to 2 p.m. – Holiday karaoke sing-along. The event is free.

• Tuesday, Dec. 10, 11 a.m. to noon – Holiday party with guitarist Bob Voegeli of 2 the Max will play holiday standards and favorites. The event is free.

• Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2 to 3:30 p.m. – Holiday jazz. Get into the spirit with world-renowned saxophonist, David Pate, and his jazz trio. Space is limited at this free event.

• Monday, Dec. 23, 1 to 2 p.m. – From St. Nicholas to Santa Claus. This is a lighthearted history of how St. Nicholas became the jolly Santa we know today. There will be seasonal refreshments at this free event.

• Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1 to 2:30 p.m. – ’Twas the Night before Christmas. Join friends in this storytelling event. Share a favorite or funny holiday anecdote or memory of a holiday that was meaningful to you at this free event.

• Monday, Dec. 30, 1 to 2 p.m. – Holiday white elephant gift exchange. Bring an inexpensive, wrapped gift and join in the playful rivalry to acquire that item with the most appeal. The event is free.
