CLEARWATER – Clearwater City Councilman and President of the Suncoast League of Cities, Bill Jonson, has accepted an invitation from the Florida League of Cities to join its Suncoast Advocacy Team.
The successful advocacy program is dedicated to developing strong working relationships with state legislators and advocating on behalf of municipalities along with the Suncoast and throughout the state.
“It is a privilege to be a part of the team that will be communicating with members of the Florida Legislature on issues affecting the citizens in our local communities,” Jonson said.
He has been on the City Council from 2001 to 2007 and again from 2010 to the present. Jonson also represents Clearwater on the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority Board, where he is vice chairman. He is also chairman of the Courtney Campbell Scenic Highway advocacy board, where the trail across the causeway is being constructed.
Johnson and the other elected officials in the Suncoast region will have a significant role in helping state legislators become fully educated about municipal government issues and the impact of unfunded state mandates on Florida’s cities.
