CLEARWATER – Two sold-out performances with Dave Chappelle set two consecutive records Dec. 17.
The second show at 10 p.m. sold 2,193 tickets, the most ever for a single performance. That number when combined with 2,171 paid tickets from the 7:30 p.m. show was 4,364 paid tickets, another new record for most paid tickets over two shows by the same performer. This is the highest attendance since the theater was renovated in 2003.
The first show sold out to Ruth Eckerd Hall members prior to going on sale to the general public.
The previous record was held by Sit Down with Robin Williams and David Steinberg set earlier this year with a total paid attendance of 2,185.
Capitol opens with three sold-out shows
CLEARWATER – Following its $10.7 million renovation, the Capitol Theatre opened recently with three sold-out shows, including a concert with five-time Grammy-winner Michael McDonald on Dec. 18.
Other sold-out shows included Rockapella on Dec. 20 and Sinbad on Dec. 21.
According to a press release, Rolling Stone magazine has named the upcoming B.B. King performance at the Capitol Theatre one of New Year’s Eve’s hottest concerts.
A wide variety of artists will take to the Capitol Theatre stage in the coming months. Scheduled to perform at the venue are Katharine McPhee on Jan. 11, Chris Botti on Jan. 18, Eddie Money on Jan. 22, Edwin McCain on Feb. 20, Art Garfunkel on Feb. 27 and Bob Newhart on March 1.
Anytime Fitness recognized as top club chain
CLEARWATER – Anytime Fitness, a co-ed fitness club chain, is ranked No. 1 on Entrepreneur magazine’s annual Franchise 500 list according to a press release.
