CLEARWATER – The Rev. Bruce Allen Fehl, who served as pastor of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Largo for 30 years, died Dec. 26, 2013 at age 81.
While at Prince of Peace, Fehl established the parish nurse program, Meals on Wheels and was the ecumenical representative for Lutherans. He also served on the ethics board of Largo Medical Center and helped establish Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, which later became Suncoast Hospice.
He served on several boards for senior residences in St. Petersburg and Odessa.
Fehl was born in Vandergrift, Pa. He graduated from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, Ill. In 1958, he started his ministry as an assistant pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, Mich. After moving to Temple Terrace in 1962, he established Christ the King parish and served as Lutheran chaplain at University of South Florida.
He came to Prince of Peace in 1967, serving until his retirement in 1997.
He is survived by his wife, Lida, of 56 years; his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Kim Kirchman, and their children, Kaiya and Marin of Odessa along with his daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Harry Koran of Largo.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 4, 11 a.m., at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 455 Missouri Ave. N. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church or to Suncoast Hospice.
