CLEARWATER – Police have arrested seven juveniles on robbery and trespassing charges after a fight broke on school grounds at Kennedy Middle School on Jan. 16.
The school’s resource officer heard word of the brawl about 4:30 p.m. As soon as he got to the scene, the fight was over the juveniles had left, police said.
Three of the students go to Kennedy Middle School and five are students at Largo Middle School. The two victims are students at Kennedy.
According to police, the fight started when members of a gang approached a youth they believed to be in a rival gang and beat him up and took his jacket by force. A friend was hit across the head with a closed pocketknife, police said, but neither youth was seriously injured.
The next day, one of the victims and his parents met with the school’s police representative and notified the officer that the attackers were in a baseball field across the street from the school.
The SRO and other officers arrived and the juveniles were arrested on robbery charges and trespassing at a school “after hours.”
Another Kennedy student who was not involved in the fight, but did not cooperate with the initial investigation on Wednesday was charged with misdemeanor obstruction of justice.
