Body of woman found in Dunedin
CLEARWATER – Police have contacted the family of a Clearwater woman who went missing Jan. 15 to report that they have found her van with a dead body inside.

Pending the official results of an autopsy, the body of Lisa Chaburka, a 48-year-old woman who lived on Maximo Avenue, was found in her 1987 Chevrolet Suburban in Dunedin. So far the police have not released how the woman died, but said the circumstances surrounding her death are not suspicious.

“There is nothing to indicate any criminal activity,” said Clearwater police spokesman Wayne Shelor.

Chaburka had been reported missing by her family after she quarreled with them. She didn’t make specific suicidal statements, a police news alert said, but her family was concerned about her safety.

Motorcyclist killed on bridge
CLEARWATER – A 41-year-old Land O’Lakes man who apparently lost control of his 2003 Harley-Davidson DynaGlide was struck and killed by a vehicle at 6:43 p.m. Jan. 14 on the Memorial Causeway Bridge. According to Clearwater Police Spokesman Wayne Shelor, Roger D. Beachamp of 23850 Hastings Way in Land O’Lakes, was headed back from the beach and traveling eastbound across the bridge.

“Inexplicably the bike hit the median and the bike and its rider tumbled out of control across the median into the path of a westbound car,” Shelor said.

Beachamp was run over by a 1998 Ford Escort driven by a Dunedin teenager and died at the scene. No charges were filed. The bridge was closed to traffic for several hours as police investigated the fatal accident.

Police look for man involved in robberies
CLEARWATER – Police are looking for a masked man involved in a series of evening street robberies. No one has been injured in the crimes that have been reported in different sections of the city. Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies said the robberies happened between Jan. 4-10. In all cases the victims were walking when approached by a lone masked man who demanded money.

Deputies said six robberies occurred thus far and all were linked to a single suspect who is described as a black male between 18 and 20 years old, about 6 feet tall and thin build. The suspect was armed with a handgun he fired into the air during one of the robberies. Deputies and Clearwater police are working on the case. Persons with information should call Detective Jim Cavagnaro of the county’s robbery unit at 582-6200 or Clearwater police at 562-4242.
