Hassell Florist wins business beautification award For more than 47 years, Hassell Florist, 1679 Drew St., has been a pillar of the downtown business community. Now it has been honored with the Winter Business Beautification Recognition Award for the winter of 2006-07.
The award, jointly sponsored by the city and the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce, honors the family-owned business for the landscaping, outdoor umbrellas, deep-well sprinkler system and other amenities it recently installed.
“We all live in such a beautiful place and it’s a great pleasure for me to recognize a business that keeps Clearwater beautiful,” Mayor Frank Hibbard said. “Hassell Florist has been a longtime contributor to the splendor of Clearwater and I congratulate them on this award.”
Harbor Oaks, four homes receive beautification awards Harbor Oaks has been named the Neighborhood of the Quarter for the winter of 2006-07 by the city’s Neighborhood and Home Recognition Program. The Neighborhood of the Quarter designation recognizes Clearwater neighborhoods that have demonstrated a decrease in crime and code violations and an increase in neighborhood involvement and empowerment, community pride activities and/or neighborhood sustainability.
Four homes have also been named Home of the Quarter for enhancing their neighborhoods.
The 1940s Key West-style home of Ed and Linda Clark, 10 N. Lake Ave., was honored for its new landscaping, sod and trees. The two-story home also has a small garden with a barrel fountain in the front yard.
James Ponticelli’s ranch-style home at 1626 Cleveland St. was recognized for its many upgrades and renovations, including its landscaping and new driveway. The Skycrest home also has a new front porch and new windows with hurricane shutters.
James Strickland and Elizabeth Cruickshank received an award for the improvements they made to their Skycrest home at 1637 Cleveland St., including new paint and landscaping. They also added a new roof, a cast-iron fence and a walkway made from 100-year-old bricks.
The Tropic Hills home of Michael Sobota, 2472 Burnice Drive, was lauded for its new paint inside and out. Its yard boasts extensive new landscaping, a water fountain and a driveway made of pavers.
