South Beach parking lots to get 17 automated pay stations
clearwater - The Clearwater City Council recently approved a $172,550 contract to provide 17 automated multi-space parking meters for the city parking lots at Pier 60 and on South Gulfview Boulevard and for the temporary lot at Coronado Drive and First Street.

The measure is expected to save the current $450,000 annual cost of hiring a contractor to provide human toll collectors for those lots.

The solar-powered machines will be placed so that there is one within 75 feet of every parking space. They will accept coins, bills or credit cards and will issue a two-part receipt, one part of which is to be displayed in the car’s windshield. The second part will be retained by the car’s owner as a reminder of when the meter will expire.

City to pay $2 million insurance bill
CLEARWATER - At its March 20 meeting the City Council authorized the city’s Risk Management Division to spend up to $2.07 million to buy insurance for the upcoming year. That amount is expected to buy $50 million of all-peril insurance with a $300,000 deductible.
