Clearwater man arrested after hitting three cars CLEARWATER – Pinellas County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Clearwater man after he fled from deputies and crashed into three vehicles April 30.
Around 6:45 p.m. deputies tried to stop Deron Coleman, 20, on State Road 580 in West Oldsmar but he sped away in a 2008 Chrysler 300, according to sheriff’s records. Then deputies said Coleman drove recklessly and clipped a 2006 Mazda, driven by Casey Zakany, 25, of Tampa. Deputies said Coleman made no attempt to stop, so the deputies pursued him.
Coleman continued through Safety Harbor, the report said, and he ran a stop sign at the intersection of Martin Luther King Street and County Road 611. There Coleman allegedly struck a Honda Accord driven by Ana Swallow, 44, of Missoula, Montana. That caused it to hit an Infinity driven by Paul Zimorski, 36, of Palm Harbor.
Swallow was taken by ambulance to Mease Countryside Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Neither Zimorski nor Zakany were injured and they refused medical treatment at the scene.
Deputies arrested Coleman for driving with a suspended license, fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest without violence, leaving the scene of a crash with bodily injury and property damage, and possession of marijuana. He was held on $31,750 bond.
Clearwater store robbed, two suspects in custody CLEARWATER – Dean Griffin and Nicole Newman, both from Clearwater, were arrested May 2 for armed robbery at a convenience store.
According to police records, Griffin, 39, and Newman, 32, entered the Circle K convenience store at 1701 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd., Clearwater, around 9:25 p.m. May 1 after leaving a nearby bar. Griffin allegedly went behind the counter and demanded money from the store employee. He then allegedly struck the employee and displayed a knife.
Griffin and Newman fled the store with an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register, the report says.
Police records say officers arrived on the scene in time to see the suspects run away. Griffin and Newman entered room 26 of the Orange Motel at 1701 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd. The suspects were quickly arrested without incident.
The suspects are each being held on $50,000 bond at the Pinellas County Jail.
