Article published on Wednesday, May 21, 2008
CLEARWATER – Clearwater Police detectives are looking for witnesses to a homicide that occurred on Douglas Avenue in Clearwater around 7:45 a.m. May 19.

Arthur Bennett of Clearwater was shot in his car which crashed into a tree. He was taken to Morton Plant Hospital with life-threatening injuries and died shortly afterwards, according to Elizabeth Daly-Watts, Clearwater public safety spokeswoman.

Detectives said the shooting was not random. According to Daly-Watts, detectives believe Bennett had an altercation with someone which led to the shooting.

A black male was seen walking in the area around the time of the crash and shooting and there was a gray car seen driving in the area. Clearwater Police, K-9 units and Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Eagle searched the area but did not find anyone. A composite picture has been made of the man.
