Arby’s robbed CLEARWATER – The Arby’s Restaurant at 1920 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd. in Clearwater was robbed at gunpoint around 9:58 p.m. May 15 by two men.
The suspects jumped over the counter and one of them pulled out a gun, according to Elizabeth Daly-Watts, public safety spokeswoman. The man held the three employees at gunpoint and forced one to open the register, Daly-Watts said. The suspects emptied the register and ran from the store. They were last seen leaving in a gold Pontiac Grand Prix.
No one was injured. If anyone recognizes either of these men or have information about the robbery, they are asked to call the Clearwater Police tip line at 562-4422.
Nine dogs die in Clearwater house fire CLEARWATER – A Clearwater house fire killed three adult dogs and six puppies early May 18.
Just before 4:12 a.m., homeowners Laurie Burbach and Russell Jacoby awoke and smelled smoke, according to Elizabeth Daly-Watts, Clearwater public safety spokeswoman. They escaped and called 911 but the fire spread quickly and they could not get their pets out in time.
Clearwater Fire and Rescue arrived at the home at 1616 Maple St. shortly after 4:12 a.m. and the house was totally engulfed in flames, Daly-Watts said. Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to adjacent homes.
Burbach and Jacoby did not suffer any injuries, but their nine dogs died. The home was destroyed and damage is estimated at $300,000, Daly-Watts said. The Red Cross is assisting the homeowners.
Based on a preliminary investigation, it appears it was an electrical fire that started in the attic.
