This man caught on surveillance tape robbed a Blockbuster Video store in Clearwater at knife point July 22 and handcuffed the 24-year-old manager. Detectives believe the man is also responsible for three other armed robberies in Pinellas County.
Video store thief robs Blockbuster manager
CLEARWATER - A man robbed a Blockbuster Video store in Clearwater at knife point July 22 and handcuffed the 24-year-old manager. Detectives believe the man is also responsible for three other armed robberies in Pinellas County.

Around 9:30 a.m., the unidentified suspect approached the manager as he was unlocking the store door at 2045 Gulf to Bay Blvd. The suspect took the victim inside at knife point and locked the door behind them, according to a police report. While inside, the suspect handcuffed the manager and put him in a back room, instructing him to stay there.

According to the report, the suspect tried to access the safe, returning to the back room a few times. Detectives believe that during this time the suspect may have had indirect contact with customers at the door; the business was scheduled to open at 10 a.m.

The suspect then removed the handcuffs from the manager, placed him in a bathroom and left with an undisclosed amount of money. After about 20 minutes the victim came out of the bathroom, discovered the suspect was gone and called police at 10:44 a.m.

The suspect is a black man who wore a blue dress shirt and khaki pants. Itıs estimated that heıs between 22 and 26 years old, heıs about 6ı2² and between

175 and 180 pounds. Clearwater police believe heıs also responsible for robberies at Blockbuster Videos at 300 E. Lake Rd. in Palm Harbor and at 13819 Walsingham Rd. in Largo and at Hollywood Video at 1477 Main St., Dunedin.

Sex offender arrested for sexual battery on teen
CLEARWATER - A 40-year-old man was arrested July 21 for sexual battery on a 16-year-old female in Clearwater. He is also charged with failure to register as a sex offender.

The 16-year-old slept over at a friendıs house July 12 where Freddie Lee Harvey, a transient, was temporarily staying, according to a police report.

During the sleepover, Harvey engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with the victim. She later reported it to her friendıs mother who told her mother; both mothers contacted the Clearwater Police Departmentıs Crimes Against Children and Families Unit.

Prostitution sting nets 11 arrests
CLEARWATER A prostitution sting resulted in 11 arrests by the Clearwater Police Department between 5 p.m. and 3 a.m. July 22 to 23.

Officers posed as decoys during the prostitution detail that resulted in prostitution and drug charges. Police also seized 5.1 grams of crack cocaine and two cars. The following are confirmed arrests:

Linda Barger, 52 of Clearwater, charged with misdemeanor soliciting prostitution.

Melissa Conyer, 23, transient, charged with misdemeanor soliciting prostitution.

Rose Anderson, 46 of Clearwater, charged with felony soliciting prostitution and is being held at the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.

Beverly Chambers, 39 of Clearwater, charged with felony soliciting prostitution and possession of crack cocaine. Police also seized one gram of crack cocaine, according to a police report.

Heather Newell, 32 of Clearwater, charged with misdemeanor soliciting prostitution.

Cynthia Dorsey, 37 of Clearwater, charged with misdemeanor soliciting prostitution.

Jody Coolaugh, 29 of Safety Harbor, charged with misdemeanor prostitution.

Eric Hayes, 52 of Sarasota, charged with felony deriving proceeds from prostitution. Police say they also seized a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse from him.

Jamie Livingston, 25 of Clearwater, charged with misdemeanor soliciting for prostitution.

Ossie Hartsfield, 60 of Dunedin, charged with felony possession of cocaine.

Police said they also seized 4.1 grams of crack cocaine from Hartsfield plus his 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
