CLEARWATER - Clearwater Police detectives are investigating an early Tuesday morning shooting on Pennsylvania Avenue.
According to a report from Clearwater Police, Lester Rollins Sr., 58, told police he was sitting in his garage around 4:45 a.m. Aug. 5 when Alexander Stephen, 21, of Clearwater approached him asking for a light for his cigar.
According to Rollins, Stephen made physical contact with him, by poking him in the chest and also made threats. Rollins said he feared for his safety and shot Stephen. Rollins then called 911 to report the shooting.
Stephen was transported to Bayfront Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery. He is out of surgery and is said to be in "guarded condition."
Apparently Rollins' normal routine is to sit in his garage in the morning to smoke and read the paper, a police report said.
Detectives have yet to determine what, if any, charges may apply. The investigation continues.
