Reclaimed water expands to 500 residents
CLEARWATER – The City of Clearwater and Southwest Florida Water Management District are set to bring reclaimed water to about 500 residents in the Coachman Ridge and Chautauqua neighborhoods.

The nearly $4 million project will provide about 270,000 gallons per day of reclaimed water, offsetting 140,000 gallons per day of ground water. This water has at least secondary treatment and is used for irrigation and other purposes.

The project is scheduled to begin in December 2008 and should be completed by December 2011. The city will pay about half the costs. The affected areas are south of Enterprise Road, north of Lake Chautauqua, west of McMullen Booth Road and east of Foxhead Way. Also, south of Sunset Road, north of N.E. Coachman Road, west of U.S. 19 and east of Belcher Road.

CMA appoints new director of development
CLEARWATER – The Clearwater Marine Aquarium recently announced the appointment of Lee Behensky as its new director of development. Behensky has 17 years of experience in fundraising within the Tampa Bay area. She will manage all of CMA’s fundraising efforts from memberships to capital campaigns. Prior to joining CMA, Behensky worked for 15 years at Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater’s performing arts center and theater. During this time, she was responsible for focused fundraising efforts in general membership, major gifts, special events, capital campaigns and planned giving. In addition, she consulted for Trinity College of Florida, the Good Samaritan Mission, Francis Wilson Playhouse and the Lighthouse of Pinellas.

Secretary of Labor awards CLEAN Energy grant
CLEARWATER – U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao recently awarded WorkNet Pinellas with the CLEAN Energy grant of $1 million. The grant is part of the President’s High Growth Job Training Initiative and will be used to accelerate training and the certification of welders for the energy industry. WorkNet Pinellas set up the regional collaboration with the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 123, the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters, Progress Energy, the Bechtel Corporation, Withlacoochee Technical Institute and Pinellas Technical Education Centers for the initiative that is being called CLEAN Energy. This partnership spans an 11-county radius including Pinellas, Hillsborough, Polk, Pasco, Hernando, Citrus, Sumter, Sarasota, Manatee, Hardee and DeSoto.
