Water award flows to Clearwater division
Article published on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006
CLEARWATER – The Public Utilities Department’s Water Division was one of seven public drinking water utilities honored with the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies Gold Award. The award recognizes accomplishments in applying competitive business strategies to meet the expectations of drinking water consumers and municipal leaders.
Utilities must meet competitive goals for efficiency, cost of operations and quality of service, while planning for the future by maintaining infrastructure and ensuring water supply needs can be fulfilled.
Clearwater Public Utilities recently built a 3-million-gallon per day reverse osmosis water treatment plant and rehabilitated numerous groundwater production wells. Public Utilities also continues expansion of its reclaimed water system for alternative irrigation sources and replacement of undersized and old water transmission mains to improve service to its customers.
