Article published on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006
CLEARWATER – Fire Medic Lt. Stanley Loveday was selected as Clearwater Fire and Rescue’s 2007 Firefighter of the Year.

Loveday began his career with the department on Oct. 27, 1986, was promoted to lieutenant in May 2001, then elevated to his present position of Fire Medic Lieutenant in May 2005.

In addition to being very involved in all aspects of the fire department’s operations, Loveday plays a key role in many of the city’s special events, and coordinates activities for the Civilian Emergency Response Team.

One of the department’s leaders in hurricane preparedness, he rewrote the department’s hurricane plan and is the primary contact person for all special needs evacuations during storms. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Loveday led a team of firefighters and paramedics to devastated Mississippi for 10 days.
