DUNEDIN – A Palm Harbor man died Friday, March 1, when he lost control of his vehicle about 2:15 a.m. at County Road 1 and Hickory Gate Drive in Dunedin.
According to deputies assigned to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team, Matthew W. Vonderau, 31, was traveling northbound when he lost control of his 2004 Ford F-150 for unknown reasons. Deputies say the vehicle swerved off the roadway struck several trees and overturned, before coming to final rest upright. Vonderau was ejected from the vehicle.
Dunedin Fire Rescue responded and Vonderau was pronounced dead on scene. Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, according to the sheriff’s report.
