City commissioners agreed to reduce the speed limit on Michigan Boulevard, shown above, and Pinehurst Road to 30 mph.
DUNEDIN Ė City commissioners unanimously agreed April 3 to lower the speed limit on Michigan Boulevard and Pinehurst Road from 35 mph to 30 mph.
Dunedin residents have requested that the existing 35 mph speed limit on Michigan Boulevard between Alt. U.S. 19 and County Road 1 be reduced to 30 mph.
The City Commission reviewed staff recommendations at the Feb. 6 commission meeting and requested additional traffic data from Pinehurst Road for comparison.
Subsequently, a resident requested a speed limit reduction for Pinehurst Road between Michigan Boulevard and Main Street.
City staff have reviewed traffic data for Michigan Boulevard and Pinehurst Road. A majority of drivers travel below 25 mph on both roadways.
Under the Florida Department of Transportation criteria speed limits could be decreased to 25 miles per hour on both roadways. City staff recommended reducing the speed limits on Michigan Boulevard and Pinehurst Road to 30 miles per hour to reduce the incremental impact on drivers, and to be consistent with other City collector roadways.
