The Big Brothers Big Sisters staff help install beams on the Piard family home.
DUNEDIN – The employees of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pinellas County volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and helped to build the Piard family’s home last December. The home was dedicated April 24.
Coincidentally, two of the Piard children are also matched with a “big brother” and “big sister” from the same Big Brothers Big Sisters agency that helped to construct the home.
“Big Brothers Big Sisters was delighted to learn that our agency was able to impact the Piard family in more ways than one,” said Susan Rolston, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pinellas County, in a news release. “Helping to build this Habitat home was a rewarding experience for our staff, and we look forward to continue serving the Piard children through our mentoring programs.”
Maria Piard has three children, two of whom are matched with “Bigs” through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pinellas County. After experiencing the loss of their father, Piard felt that the Big Brothers Big Sister’s program would be a good fit for her children. Both Bigs have reported that the children are very excited about moving into their new home.
The Piards’ received the keys to their Habitat for Humanity home April 24. Habitat’s new Shady Grove subdivision is a former public housing site that is being redeveloped into 19 townhomes. This is the first multi-family unit developed by Habitat Pinellas. The first building is complete.
