DUNEDIN – Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a fatal crash involving a Jeep Cherokee and a Honda scooter.
The crash occurred on State Road 580 near Belcher Road in Dunedin at about 10:38 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18.
According to deputies, at the time of the crash, Rashied Jones, 39, was driving a Jeep Cherokee east in the center lane of SR 580 approaching Belcher Road. Gordon Haboush, 55, of Dunedin was driving a Honda scooter northbound on Belcher Road approaching SR 580. Haboush continued driving between stopped vehicles as he approached the intersection. He then traveled between the curb-through lane and right-turn-only lane, pulling into the path of the Jeep Cherokee.
The Jeep struck the scooter and the driver of the scooter was trapped under the Jeep. Haboush was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet. Jones was not injured.
SR 580 was closed to eastbound traffic for about four hours during the investigation.
