LARGO – Dunedin North Rotary presented a $3,000 check to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pinellas County Aug. 14, which will serve as the lifeline to several matches in the Dunedin area.
As of August 2013, there are 194 children waiting to be matched with a mentor in Pinellas, Citrus and Hernando counties. On average it costs $1,200 to make and professionally support one match per year.
Dunedin Rotary North has provided the financial support we need to recruit new Big Brother and Big Sister volunteers to cover the costs of level-2 background screenings and insurance, while ensuring trained, degreed professionals match children to caring and responsible Bigs; offer one-on-one, ongoing supervision and professional support for every match; provide online interactive training designed to guide Bigs through their role as a mentor.
“Big Brothers Big Sisters has been helping students in our community for many years through the coordination of matches between adult mentors and children in need,” said Jo Ann Rooney, member of Dunedin North Rotary. “We serve many of the same at-risk children through our Rotary programs such as the Sing Spell Read and Write at San Jose Elementary. Supporting Big Brothers and Big Sisters was an easy decision to make.”
Dunedin North Rotary continues to invest in our community and is the proud sponsor of Rotary’s Camp Florida for Kids, Dunedin Youth Sailing Association, SSR W and Students for Tomorrow’s Leadership.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pinellas County extends gratitude for Rotary’s generous support.
