DUNEDIN – The Dunedin parks and recreation department has won a Media Excellence Award in the audio visual/electronic media category from the Florida Recreation and Parks Association. This is a statewide nonprofit organization representing local government parks and recreation interests in the state.
The department staff in Dunedin wanted to create a promotional video that informed the public of the various parks, recreation and leisure time opportunities available to them in the city. A compilation of outstanding features of the department was assembled and is shown on the video. The video was unveiled at a Dunedin City Commission meeting in July 2011 to commemorate and celebrate Parks and Recreation Month. Since then, the video has been used to reach grassroots supporters and users of the department’s offerings. The video plays each day on Dunedin’s government television channel and is shown at large special events.
“The promotional video that Dunedin produced to highlight its parks and recreation programs and facilities served as a reminder to residents and visitors alike that parks and recreation is the heart of the community,” said Don Decker, awards chairman. “The video connected the dots between events, sports, open spaces and health and the civic pride that comes when one engages in these programs.”
