DUNEDIN - Movies begin at dusk in Pioneer Park at the intersection of Main Street and Douglas Avenue on Friday nights throughout October.

Friday, Oct. 2
“The Wizard of Oz” – Judy Garland, Bert Lahr, Ray Bolger and Jack Haley. You know the script. Dorothy joins the tin man, the scarecrow and cowardly lion on an adventure down the Yellow Brick Road.

Friday, Oct. 9
“Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man” – This movie mixes the horror and gangster genres in the story of two private detectives trying to clear their boxer friend of a murder charge with the help of an invisibility formula.

Friday, Oct. 16
“King Kong” – Fay Wray, Nancy Guild, Arthur Franz. Skull Island natives capture blonde bombshell and aspiring movie star Ann Darrow and offer her as a sacrifice to their god, King Kong.

Friday, Oct. 23
“Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers” – Hugh Marlowe, Joan Taylor and Donald Curtis. Dr. Russell Marvin heads up Operation Skyhook, which is tasked with sending rockets into the upperatmosphere to probe for future space flights. During the final rocket launching, a UFO lands. Dr. Marvin develops an anti-magnetic beam weapon to disable the flying discs.

Friday, Oct. 30
“Bride of Frakenstein” – The film stars Boris Karloff and Colin Clives.

This is the best in the Frankenstein series. The laboratory scene in which Dr. Frankenstein creates a mate for the Monster is, perhaps, the most spectacular climax in this genre’s history.
