Obituary: Irene Katherine Taft

Irene Katherine Taft, 90, passed away Oct.19, 2012, at Monadnock Community Hospital, Peterborough, N.H.
Mrs. Taft was born in New York City on June 4, 1922, the daughter of Christine (Rubasch) and John Schorsch. She spent the past several years at Riverhead Retirement Community, previously living in Stoddard, New Hampshire and Dunedin, Florida. Mrs. Taft also lived in California, Illinois and Connecticut.
She worked as a real estate agent in Maryland for many years. She enjoyed reading and music. Golf was one of her favorite pastimes; playing at both the Dunedin Country Club and the Angus Lea Golf Course in Hillsborough, New Hampshire. She was a very practical person who enjoyed sewing and designing her own patterns. She also enjoyed knitting.
Her husband, Jay L. Taft, Jr., who died in 2003, predeceased Mrs. Taft.
She is survived by her son, Jay L. Taft, III of Bedford, N.H.; her daughter, Christine Benson of Alstead, N.H.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her sister, Barbara Loftus of Harwich, Mass., and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Taft’s friends and family celebrated her life during her 90th birthday party at RiverMead last June, which she enjoyed very much. There will be a private family memorial in the near future.
