Stroll through Dunedin DUNEDIN – The Second Friday Dunedin Wine/Art Walk Friday, Dec. 11, will have more than 30 merchants participating with discounts, give-a-ways, etc. from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. When you purchase a $10 wristband at select locations you also will be eligible for a drawing in Pioneer Park on Douglas Avenue and Main Street at 7:45 p.m.
Some merchants will have wine tastings, art exhibits, food and entertainment.
The Pioneer Park Stage will be Sponsored by the Dunedin High School Scottish Highlander Band Program with their 5th Annual Holiday Concert in the Park featuring music from the award winning Pipe Band, Superior Rated Jazz Band and Symphonic Bands.
There will be a replacement venue announced for the second Friday drawing if the weather is inclement.
Fine Art Center schedules events DUNEDIN – Several fall exhibitions are scheduled through Wednesday, Dec. 23, at Dunedin Fine Art Center, 1143 Michigan Blvd.
Exhibitions will include The Cabinet of Natural Curiosities, a group exhibition of contemporary international artists which explores the theme of Albertus Seba’s 18th century natural history classic by the same name. The artists gathered represent a variety of media – sculpture, printmaking, painting, wood, ceramics, jewelry and fiber. Featured are Australian artist Timothy Horn, Bosnian-born painter and printmaker Tanja Softic and Ladislav Hanka.
Also on exhibit are Rachel Simmons: Wonders of the Sea, Critters God Left on the Drawing Table and A Cool Collection by Some Sizzlin’ Kids. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m. Call 298-3322 or visit www.dfac.org.
Literacy tutor training set DUNEDIN – The Literacy Council of Upper Pinellas is offering tutor training on Saturday, Jan. 30, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., at the Dunedin Public Library, 223 Douglas Ave. The goal is to meet the literacy needs of adult students in central and north Pinellas County.
There will be individualized follow-up training after tutors are assigned a student. Those interested should call 298-3080, ext. 242. Students need help by having one-on-one assistance to improve their English language skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
Holiday event to benefit TFO DUNEDIN – The Florida Orchestra/North Suncoast Associates will host an evening in celebration of the holidays on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Mease Manor Auditorium, 700 Mease Plaza. The event will kick off with hors d’oeuvres and a dessert buffet, wine and beverages at 6 p.m., followed by a musical program featuring members of the Florida Orchestra.
The musical program will feature Lewis Sligh, flute; Fred Gratta, cello; and Virginia Respess, violin. They will perform selections by Joseph Haydn and Sergei Rachmaninoff. A social mixer, including auction items, will follow the performance at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 a person. Proceeds will benefit the Florida Orchestra. Unity Community Church DUNEDIN – The following events are scheduled in December at Unity Community Church, 1315 Bayshore Blvd. Sunday, Dec. 6, 10 a.m.: Guest speaker, Lore Raymond, topic, “Blessings from Bali … We Are One.” Balinese music and slides for an open-eyed meditation will be featured.
Sunday, Dec. 13, 10 a.m.: Guest speaker, David Jehlen. Sunday, Dec. 20, 10 a.m.: Spiritual leader, Elsie Huebner, will present a traditional Christmas sermon after which there will be a Christmas potluck luncheon for the congregation.
Thursday, Dec. 24, 7 p.m.: Christmas Eve candle light service will feature a brief Christmas message, Christmas music and a lot of candles. Sunday, Dec. 27, 10 a.m.: Unity’s traditional burning bowl service. Negative experiences and ideas from the past will be written and released in a bowl of fire followed by writing a letter to God, where desires for the future are expressed.
