DUNEDIN – Karen Miller of Palm Harbor was sworn in as the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 11 commander and Marcel Traficante of Largo was sworn in as division vice commander during a ceremony Dec. 13.
The keynote speaker was Capt. Richard Lorenzen, commanding officer, Air Station Clearwater. He spoke of the many sacrifices made by the auxiliary and made special note that Division 11 members had contributed more than 72,000 volunteer hours in support of the local Coast Guard commands: Sector St. Petersburg, Air Station Clearwater and Station Sand Key.
Also speaking at the ceremony were Commander Sean Ryan, deputy commander, Sector St. Petersburg, and Chief Warrant Officer Steven McDonnell, commanding officer Station Sand Key. McDonnell stressed the fact that he called upon the members of Division 11 to respond to 25 percent of the search and rescue calls and that Flotilla 11-10, Dunedin, had volunteered more hours on the water in support of the Coast Guard than any other flotilla in the United States.
