LARGO – The Largo Public Library will co-sponsor the annual genealogy seminar Saturday, Feb. 12.
The all-day event opens with registration at 8 a.m. and concludes at 4 p.m.
Megan Smolenyak is this year’s special guest speaker. She has authored four books on genealogy, including her most well known, “Who Do You Think You Are?: The Essential Guide to Tracing Your Family History.”
This is the companion guide to the popular NBC series of the same name. Smolenyak has served as chief family historian and spokesperson for Ancestry.com.
Smolenyak will speak on four topics: “Trace Your Roots with DNA,” “Reverse Genealogy: Techniques for Finding Your Lost Loved Ones,” “Find the Obituary! Online Newspaper Research,” and “Cold Cases: Genealogists, Coroners and the FBI.”
This seminar includes a book sale, opportunities to meet local historical and lineage society representatives and time to share experiences with other genealogists. Included in the conference fee are a continental breakfast, lunch and beverages throughout the day.
Advanced registration is $47, $42 for Pinellas Genealogy Society Members, and $50 after Feb. 5. Guests can buy tickets the day of the seminar, but early registration is recommended to secure a seat.
Registration forms are available at the Genealogy Center in the Largo Public Library or online at www.rootsweb.ancestry.com.
