LARGO – The city of Largo began collecting mixed recycling from residents’ new recycling carts this week.
The new, once-a-week curbside service makes recycling easier and accommodates more recyclables than ever before. In addition to the any paper item that tears, plastic bottles, flattened cardboard and aluminum cans, the city of Largo welcomes back colored glass and introduces more plastic containers with a recycling symbol No. 3 through 7, paper cartons and metal food cans.
Largo residents with curbside collection already have received the blue, wheeled recycling carts that can be easily rolled to the curb on their recycle day. The cart’s lid keeps recycling secure, and no sorting is necessary in this new program. Recyclables will be transported to a Material Recovery Facility that uses technology to sort the material.
