LARGO – The city of Largo’s Housing Rehabilitation Program provides low or no-interest loans to eligible homeowners to make improvements to their homes.
Glynis Rutter, who recently participated in the program, was very impressed with the simplicity of the entire process, according to a city press release.
“I was amazed at just how easy it was,” she said.
Glynis helped her 91-year-old mother, Lilian, work with the city’s community development department to complete several badly needed improvements, including new windows and replacing a damaged roof that has needed regular patching and repairs in the last few years.
Glynis learned about the Housing Rehabilitation Program through some neighbors. She visited Largo.com, downloaded and submitted an application and soon was speaking with a representative from the community development department.
“Somebody explained the process to us every step of the way. It wasn’t the least bit intimidating,” she said.
The Housing Rehabilitation Program offers loans with interest rates up to 2 percent to Largo residents who meet certain income eligibility requirements. The maximum repayment period available is 20 years, and there also are deferred payment loans available. Other occupancy and equity requirements exist as well.
