LARGO – Gloria D. Nettles, 57, of Largo was charged with 17 counts of animal cruelty on Feb. 19.

According to the report from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy went to the residence on 131st St. N. about 1 p.m. and noticed a foul odor coming from the home.

“Concerned about the occupant's welfare, deputies gained entry to the home and discovered 17 dogs inside,” the report said.

Deputies said the three bedroom, one bath home was deteriorating and dog feces were found throughout the cluttered residence.

Pinellas County Animal Control and the SPCA responded and removed 10 pugs, six pekapoos and one Lab mix. The animals were taken to the shelter at the SPCA.

Nettles was not in the home at the time deputies were in her home. She was contacted at her place of employment and advised of the situation. Deputies reported that she was eventually taken to a local facility for mental evaluation.

She faces 17 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty. County Code Enforcement has also been advised about the condition of the home.
