LARGO – Two Largo police officers were injured as they tried to stop a 27-year-old woman from leaving in a stolen vehicle Feb. 22.
Jamie Ramseur of Largo was charged with attempted felony murder of a law enforcement officer, among a long list of other offenses reportedly committed as she tried to drive the stolen vehicle away and hide from the officers early that morning.
The incident started at around 12:45 a.m. when a Largo officer was patrolling near Brittany Bay apartment complex, at 1201 Seminole Blvd. The officer checked the tag of a vehicle as it pulled into the nearby SuperAm convenience store at 1595 Seminole Blvd. A male and a female got out of the vehicle and began walking into the store as the results from the tag check came back, identifying the vehicle as stolen.
The officer quickly approached the two as they were about the leave the area, but the woman – later identified as Ramseur – ran back to the vehicle. The officer tried to stop her, reaching into the car to take the keys from the engine. As he did, Ramseur bit the officer’s arm, drove into a Dumpster, a potted plant area, another vehicle and two people, according to reports. She also ran over the officer’s lower leg, causing him to fall back and strike his head.
The injured officer radioed for medical assistance and provided a description of the vehicle. Two of several officers who responded to the SuperAm saw the vehicle near Seminole Boulevard and Fifth Avenue Southwest and followed it to the southwest area of the city.
Ramseur was attempting to hide by turning off the headlights of the vehicle and parking between two vehicles in a residential area. The officers approached the vehicle and tried to remove her from inside.
One officer was thrown back and almost pinned between the two vehicles, as she began to drive away again. Ramseur eventually crashed in the front yard of a residence and got out to run away. A police K9 team tracked her behind some trees in the backyard of a home about a 1/4 mile away.
Along with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, Ramseur is charged with resisting arrest with violence, felony hit and run with injuries, fleeing and eluding, violation of probation, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated fleeing and eluding, driving with a revoked drivers license, possession of crack cocaine, grand theft, resisting without violence, a felony hit and run with property damage, reckless driving and an open container violation.
She was booked into the Pinellas County Jail, where she is being held without bond until trial. According to jail records, Ramseur has been arrested several times in Pinellas County. Most recently, Largo police arrested her in June 2012 for possession of Xanax, crack cocaine, marijuana with the intent to sell and drug paraphernalia.
The Largo Police Department still is trying to identify the male subject who was with Ramseur when the officer identified the stolen vehicle.
