LARGO – A 52-year-old man faces was arrested after firing a semi-automatic handgun in BayView Pavilion Office Business Complex at 15550 Lightwave Drive in Largo Feb. 27, according to Largo police.
At around 9:28 a.m., Fred Michael Sumner entered the lobby of the building and produced the weapon from his waistband. According to police, he was distraught over his wife’s alleged affair. His wife works for a business at the complex, but was not there at the time.
Sumner reportedly shot towards the doors and windows in the lobby of the building before firing a single shot into his own abdomen. He did not aim at or threaten anyone in the lobby.
Sumner was flown to an area hospital for treatment of his self-inflicted gunshot wound. He is being charged with criminal mischief and shooting within an occupied building.
No one else was injured in the shoot. Police located Sumner’s wife, who was reportedly uninjured.
