LARGO – Members of the community are invited to the grand opening ceremony of Largo’s new Bayhead Ponds Park as well as the ground breaking of the Largo Skate Park on Thursday, Feb. 28, 5:15 p.m., at 375 Seminole Blvd.
The ceremony, led by the city’s Parks Division and Engineering Division, will feature a special fish release, allowing children present to release a bluegill into the lake, made possible by a donation from the Florida Wildlife Commission. Children also will have an opportunity to fish, thanks to the Florida Gulf Coast Center For Fishing Foundation.
Bayhead park features two lakes, thousands of newly planted shrubs, grasses, aquatic plants and trees, and a 1/3 mile asphalt loop walking trail open to the public. Additional amenities include a variety of park benches, picnic tables and trash/recycling bins.
A short demonstration of the “Fluid Earth” model will take place immediately following. Several community and downtown organizations will be on hand to talk with residents.
Bayhead Ponds Park will be open daily from dawn till dusk.
