LARGO – City officials have declared an impasse in negotiations with the collective bargaining unit representing Largo firefighters.
The bargaining agreement between the city and the International Association of Firefighters, Local 2427, expired on Sept. 30.
As of Feb. 22, a tentative agreement had not been reached on several issues, such as hours of work, wages, sick leave, insurance and vacation.
On Feb. 12, the city was notified that its offer for a new agreement was rejected by a vote of the union membership.
The city, acting under state law, has asked the state Public Employees Relations Commission to appoint a special magistrate to resolve the impasse.
