LARGO – The city of Largo’s Housing Rehabilitation Program provides low or no-interest loans to help eligible homeowners make improvements to their homes.
Glynis Rutter, who recently participated in the program, was very impressed with the simplicity of the entire process. Rutter helped her 91-year-old mother work with Largo Community Development to complete several badly needed repairs, including a new roof and new windows.
“I was amazed at just how easy it was,” she said.
After years of struggling with a damaged roof that needed regular patching and repairs, Rutter learned about the rehabilitation program through some very helpful neighbors. She then visited Largo.com, applied online and soon was speaking with a representative from the Community Development Department.
“Somebody explained the process to us every step of the way. It wasn’t the least bit intimidating,” she said.
The Housing Rehabilitation Program offers loans with interest rates from zero to 2 percent, available to Largo residents who meet certain income eligibility requirements. The maximum repayment period available is 20 years, and there also are deferred payment loans available. Other occupancy and equity requirements exist as well.
