LARGO – A difference in land-use designations between the city and county has stalled plans that would provide affordable housing units and land for the city to build a new community center near Highlands Park.
On Feb. 5, the City Commission approved a land use change from residential, low density to residential, office retail to allow the community center. The change, however, was rejected by the Pinellas Planning Council because the county land use map doesn’t contain an ROR zone.
The county staff suggested Largo change its request to change the site’s density to residential medium, advising a community center would be permitted.
This will send the proposal back to the City Commission to introduce a new amendment to the future land use codes.
