LARGO – Largo police arrested a 70-year-old man April 14 for sexual battery against a 13-year-old autistic girl.
A neighbor witnessed an elderly man kissing the girl and reported it, Largo police said. Officer Matthew Desjardins went to Largo Middle School to talk with the girl, who told him the man had touched her.
Two detectives were called in to help with the investigation. After the child told police more about what happened, she was given a sexual assault victim examination.
Police interviewed the suspect, Ramiro Alberto Solano at his Largo home. He denied any involvement. But as the child provided more information, detectives brought Solano to the police department.
Once there, he confessed “to everything,” according to police. He also said that the behavior had been going on for more than two years, meaning the child had been younger than 12 at the start of the alleged sexual battery.
The resulting sexual battery charge against him is a felony, given her age.
Solano was booked into the Pinellas County Jail Monday night. Bond was set at $250,000.
