LARGO – William “Doc” Bauer of Largo and a member of Detachment 54, the Clearwater/Largo unit of the Marine Corps League, was recognized at a June 7 award ceremony in Orlando as the winner of the league’s Jim Spears Award.
The award, named for a noted Marine author, is given in the annual, statewide Department of Florida News Article Competition. The competition judges writing and editing know-how as well as the ability to keep the public informed as to the league’s mission, organization, philanthropy, patriotism and ceremonial excellence. Bauer won the category for detachments with 101 or more active members.
“Doc is one of those few good men who is dedicated to publicizing as well as doing the things he writes about,” said Jaime Perez, Detachment 54’s commandant.
