Christi Snyder, volunteer coordinator for RCS, speaks to the Kiwanis Club of Largo/Mid-Pinellas June 12 about the nonprofit’s need for volunteers over the summer to help at the The RCS Food Bank.
LARGO – Christi Snyder, volunteer coordinator for RCS, talked about the need for volunteers at the nonprofit’s food bank this summer during the dinner meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Largo/Mid-Pinellas June 12.

RCS, or Religious Community Services, is a nonprofit agency serving the people of Pinellas County with basic needs through four distinct, yet interwoven programs since 1967.

The RCS Food Bank is the largest distributor of food to people in need living in Pinellas County, serving about 25,000 people each month. RCS Grace House helps families facing homelessness by providing up to eight weeks of apartment-style emergency shelter. The Haven of RCS offers an emergency safe house, safety planning, group support and more to victims of domestic violence. The RCS Thrift Store provides revenue to RCS through sales to the public of used items: clothing, household items, furniture and more.

Due to the increase in people needing food this summer, RCS needs more volunteers to help distribute and stock at the food bank. If you want to help, contact Snyder 584-3528, ext. 407 or

During the meeting June 12, the Kiwanis also gave a parting gift and certificate to Johanna Anderson for her help as the faculty advisor for the Largo High School Key Club, a Kiwanis-sponsored youth program. The Key Club, the largest and oldest service organization for teens, teaches leadership through service to others in planning and conducting service projects, both inside and outside of their school. Anderson will transfer to Bayside High School in the fall.

Joining the Largo Kiwanians were a group from Kiwanis of Springtime City, based in Clearwater.

Kiwanis is a worldwide service organization founded in 1915 and dedicated to improving the lives of children through local Kiwanis clubs. The Largo Kiwanis Club is accepting new members, and meets twice a month: for a breakfast on first Fridays, 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., at Royal Palms, 200 Lake Ave. NE. in Largo, and for dinner on second Thursdays, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Roosterfish Grill, 776 Missouri Ave., also in Largo.
