LARGO – A Largo K-9 officer pulled over a car that reportedly jumped a median on Starkey Road and found more than 25 grams of meth between the driver and passenger in the vehicle during the early morning hours of June 18.
Earlier in the same overnight shift, Officer Jeff Rogers and K-9 Fritz had found and returned nine stolen rifles and shotguns hidden under a camouflage blanket in the woods as they were tracking burglary suspects near 62nd Street and Whitney Road, Sgt. Ryan Dulski reported.
On the way back out of the woods, they ran into the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputy looking for the firearms, which were stolen out of a car in Clearwater. The firearms were returned to their owner.
Later, as Rogers was driving south on Starkey Road, a car jumped the median right in front of him, jumping it again to get back into the northbound lanes. After pulling the car over, Rogers reportedly noticed that the driver was acting very weird and nervous.
The driver – Justin Patrick Smith, 26, of Clearwater – was arrested for driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license. Before his car was impounded, police searched it and found about 25 grams of meth in Smith’s backpack. Smith also reportedly had 47 Xanax pills and a pipe.
He was charged with trafficking meth as well as possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.
A small amount of meth was found in the backpack of the passenger, Steven Andrew Danick, 23, of Pinellas Park. Danick was charged with possession of meth and drug paraphernalia.
