LARGO – Local activist Ernie Bach of Largo is recruiting members to reestablish the Florida Silver Haired Legislature, a senior citizen organization that used to boast chapters throughout the state.
Bach, a former executive director of the organization, has resisted the state nonprofit corporation and is planning a statewide tour to media outlets and senior citizen organizations to spread the word.
The first meeting of the Tampa Bay chapter of the organization will be Monday, Aug. 18, 10 a.m., at Suncoast Hospice, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater.
Bach will be featured on the radio program “Health, Wisdom and Wealth” on 1250 WHNZ on Monday, July 21, 7 to 7:30 p.m. Listeners can hear the program at www.WHNZ.com by clicking the “Listen Live” link during that time.
Bach will explain all facets of the Silver Haired Legislature and what it means to be a member. He hopes “to recognize once again the glory of this 1978 chartered senior citizen organization, which at one time had the active significant support of local and state governments and the business community,” he explained in an email. He plans to organize annual legislative sessions in Tallahassee.
