LARGO – Largo police arrested Charles Michael Yantis, 24, of Largo July 26 for second-degree murder in the investigation of a fatal stabbing that occurred July 25.
Police responded to an apartment complex at 4500 E. Bay Drive at 5:38 p.m. Friday. Neighbors called to report that a fight had taken place, leaving one man bleeding. Officers who responded found Marvin Neil Haddock, 26, dead.
According to witnesses, a verbal argument began outside of the apartment. Yantis reportedly told Haddock to step inside. Both continued to argue, challenging each other to a physical confrontation, according to a police report.
Once inside, Yantis retrieved a knife and sliced Haddock’s arm. Yantis was told to drop the knife by all involved parties, according to police, however, he fatally stabbed Haddock.
Detectives were able to quickly identify all involved in the altercation. Yantis was arrested and taken to the Pinellas County Jail. Along with second-degree murder, he is charged with simple battery and aggravated battery involving physical disfigurement.
According to jail records, Yantis lives at the apartment complex where he was arrested. Previously, he was arrested in Pinellas County for simple battery in February of this year; possession of marijuana and retail theft in June 2013; and aggravated battery in December 2009.
