CSX construction crews work to repave West Bay Drive Aug. 25, after replacing the railroad crossing.
LARGO – According to the city of Largo’s engineering services division, West Bay Drive is scheduled to reopen to vehicle traffic Tuesday, Aug. 26, 6:30 p.m., following the successful replacement of the railroad crossing.
The road was closed at the tracks, just west of Seminole Boulevard, at 10 a.m. Aug. 22. Beginning that afternoon, CSX construction crews began to remove the existing railroad crossing, city engineer Leland Dicus reported.
On Aug. 23, the new concrete tub crossing was installed and the rails were inserted into the channels within the tubs. Further progress was delayed that afternoon due to rain.
Crews restored the road Aug 24-25. Final asphalt lifts on the east side of the tracks were completed the afternoon of Aug. 25.
The final asphalt lifts on the west side of the tracks are scheduled to be completed Tuesday, Aug. 26, weather permitting. This would allow the road to be reopened at about 6:30 p.m.
West Bay Drive, and the businesses just west of the construction, is still open to local traffic via the detour via Clearwater-Largo Road.
