Daniel Short, 7, slams a plate filled with spaghetti noodles, black beans and Fruit Loops on his mother, Daniella’s, head during a food fight activity as part of Mom Son Messy Madness at Highland Recreation Complex Sept. 21. Cinderella and her Prince Charming – aka 3-year-old Maddison and Justin Stanton of Largo – steal a quiet moment on the dance floor during Daddy-Daughter Date Night at the Largo Community Center.
LARG0 – The ballroom of the Largo Community Center came alive as girls in swirling dresses and buckle shoes showed their fathers how to dance to the likes of the “Cupid Shuffle” and “Cha Cha Slide” Sept. 21.
About 120 fathers and their daughters attended Largo’s 36th annual Daddy Daughter Date Night, themed with the streets of New York City.
“It gives the dads some along with with their kids,” said David Kadou of Largo, who was attending the event with his daughters, Ashley, 10, and Ryann, 8.
The girls competed at the limbo and a hula hoop contest, a skill at which their fathers proved woefully inadequate. They also were treated to New York-style treats like hot dogs, pretzels and caramel “Big Apples.”
While Largo dads and their daughters enjoyed a sophisticated evening of dancing, very tolerate mothers and their sons got messy at Highland Recreation Complex.
For the second year, the city of Largo hosted Mother Son Messy Madness to complement Date Night. The high-energy activities included slime, a food fight, toilet paper, games and finally, a shower from fire hoses, courtesy of Largo Fire Rescue.
