LARGO - the Largo Police Department's Investigative Services Division Special Operations Unit conducted a joint operation with the Drug Enforcement Agency Oct. 10, serving a search warrant on a suspected Methamphetamine lab operating in the Briarwood Mobile Home Park, 2098 Seminole Blvd. Lot 129.

According to a report from Largo police, the location was annexed by the city of Largo Aug. 7. Shortly thereafter intelligence was acquired of the existence of a Methamphetamine lab at the mobile home.

After thorough investigation, evidence was acquired to obtain a search warrant for the residence from the Pinellas/Pasco State's Attorney's Office.

Partnering with the DEA Methamphetamine Task Force and Largo Fire Rescue, the Largo Police Department executed the search warrant on the residence. Police said within the residence were found "precursor chemicals," a fully functioning meth lab and methamphetamine ready for use.

Christopher Michael Blondeau, 37, was arrested and transported to the Pinellas County Jail. Blondeau was charged with one count of trafficking in methamphetamine, one count of manfacture of methamphetamine, one count of rental for manufacturing/trafficking and one count of unlawful possession of a listed chemical. Bond was set at $75,000.

Largo police offered some tips to help prevent methamphetamine in the local Community. They advised the public to be on the look out for suspicious activity and odors. A strong "cat urine" like smell could indicate a meth lab.

Other tips included:

- Make your voice heard, and let people know methamphetamine will not be tolerated in our community.

- Educated other citizens and businesses on the dangers of methamphetamine and what they can do to prevent methamphetamine.

- Business people can monitor what they sell, and report suspicious buying patterns to local law enforcement

- Landlords can be aware of what goes on in their rental properties, and

protect themselves from the liability and problems stemming from methamphetamine lab clean-up.

Some of the equipment and chemicals commonly used for methamphetamine cooking are:

- Rubber Tubing
- Glass or Plastic Jugs
- Turkey Baster
- Bottles
- Measuring Cups
- Gasoline Can
- Ephederine (Cold and Allergy Medicine)
- Pseudoepherdrine (Cold and Allergy Medicine)
- Alcohol (Rubbing/Gasoline Additive)
- Iodine (Veterinarian Products)
- Ether (Engine Starter)
- Sulfuric Acid (Drain Cleaner)

Anyone wishing to report similar activity are encouraged to contact the Largo Police Department at 587-6730 or their local Police or Sheriff's Department.

Update: Added charges and bond amount.
